UX Study Note 1: What is Website User Experience?

In the past, I had some bad online experience from some websites. For example, some website check-out process required too many steps that drive me crazy, and some websites had terrible designs that made me feel difficult to trust.
Then, I get interested in web user experience and want to research what kind of user experience will make people feel happy. Thus, I start learning User Experience for the Web from Open2Study.com. I would love to share my study notes and learning insight with you.
Key Study Notes From Course:
1. Overall of User Experience (UX)
  • User experience is designing all aspects of a person’s experience with a product or service.
  • User experience is influenced by disciplines such as:
    • Graphic Design
    • Psychology
    • Research
    • Anthropology
  • User Experience is all about end users, so about human behavior and how a user perceives
  • UX is underpinned by research, research being, researching what the user needs and how they’ll go about interacting with new products and services
2. Key Factors of Websites
  • Content-the actual information of the website
  • Tone/Language-tone of voice and language of the website
  • Usability-the ability for you to actually complete your task on the web
  • Branding-how the website makes you feel
  • Look+Feel
  • Images-visual elements and graphic design
  • Processes-the processes that you follow when trying to complete your task and the fact that the website tries to anticipate what you’re trying to do
My Learning Insight:
How do I evaluate the user experience of a shopping website?
When I visit a website, firstly I will see how the website look. Does it look attractive? Does it provide clear navigation? Does the image make me feel lovely?
Then, I will explore more details on the website.  Does the information easy to read and understand? Is that information useful and valuable? Does the information answer my question?
Next, I will choose the product. Does the product show clear information such as price, size, color, shipping etc? Does the website allow customers to write a review? What’s the review score?
At the end, I will process the checkout. Is the product easy to add to a cart? Does the website pop up some special promotion code for my check out? If I am a new customer,  can I check out without sign up a new account? How many steps take me to complete the transaction?
Most time, when a website provides multiple ways to sign up, I prefer to choose the easiest way to register such as using social media account to log in. When the check out process takes too long to complete, I am more likely to leave without finish the purchase.
Thus, when a website offers an easy and direct way to register, customers are more likely to become new users. When the checkout process only takes a few simple steps, customers are more willing to complete the transaction and get back to your site in the future.
Overall, a great user experience all about makes people feel simple, smart, and happy.

Starbucks: Three Main Benefits For Writing Customer Name On The Cup

Whenever I order a small Starbucks coffee, I am always asked "What's your first name?" by a cashier. Even I was the only person to order, they still asked my name. Not only Starbucks, now many other bubble tea brands such as Vivi, Coco, Gong Tea also start calling customer's names. Why does Starbucks write customer name on the cup? What're the benefits to do that? Image from writingelves.com Self-Promotion In the beginning, Starbucks wrote customer names because they received too many orders. Marking down names would prevent mistakes. Later on, Starbucks found that writing names do not only improve work efficiency but also increase brand awareness.   Sometimes (most times) Starbucks spell the wrong name. You think customers will get angry? Actually no. In contrast, people feel Starbucks is not only a coffee shop but also a coffee shop with its own personality.  Image From Memeguy Some customers also make fun with Starbucks. They come up with

Just Eat:" No Match Is A Wrong Match"

A lot of us are struggling to find our true love. However, when we finally find the right one, the relationship may not always have a happy ending. Many people, like my parents' generation, think love is only between a man and a woman. They are very hard to accept "man-man" or "woman-woman" or couple from different cultures.  Whenever I say we should respect all kinds of relationships, my parents think I have a problem. Overall, I need to be fixed.  Because of those judgement and bias, some people have to hide their true feelings of love. They don't have enough courage to tell the truth because they think no one will  understand them. The most important, they don't want get hurt. The sponsor of Milan Pride 2019, Just Eat App  created a special love story between a slice of pizza and a pineapple.
