Keyword research is the first step for creating keyword lists. You can brainstorm some good ideas, but it is just too limited. The Google Ads course introduced four useful keyword search tools to get keyword ideas quickly.

Google Autocomplete

Google autocomplete is usually the first place to find keyword ideas because everyone is searching on Google.

I go to the Google search page and enter "birthday gift", then there are drop-down relevant keywords ideas.

I could see many good keyword ideas for a "birthday gift" like "birthday gifts for him", "birthday gifts for best friend", and etc. In the drop-down, it usually shows the top search terms on Google.

Google Suggestions

Another way to find some good keyword ideas is from Google suggestions. Just type your search term on Google and enter the search result page. Then scroll down to the bottom, you can see the "searches related to birthday gift" which is my search term.

Uber Suggest

Uber suggest is a free tool to get good keyword ideas. You could select the country to get top keyword ideas in a particular country. It is very useful, especially when you are running a global business. You want to know how the local users are searching for your products.

For example, I type "birthday gift" in the search bar, it will give me 471 suggested keyword ideas, search volumes and cost per click for each keyword. We want to find the longtail keyword suggestions for positive keywords.

Soolve.com

Soolve.com is a good place to find keyword ideas from all the top search engines. It shows the top most popular searches on all these different search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo and etc.

Overall, you can get a lot of positive and negative keyword ideas from those free keyword tools. At the keyword research stage, our main job is to learn about how people are talking about our products and how users are searching for our product differently.

Besides using these tools, we also need to study our website and competitors' websites to read the product description and features and find some keyword ideas. It is all about what customers care about.
