Why do people check emails so often?

  • It's relevant to us.
No matter work emails or promotion emails, they are all related to us. We want to know what's the matter by reading those emails. Some emails are emergency, we need to reply them right away. Some emails are not important, we can ignore. The point is we can take control of it.

For me, I check emails every day, but I don't check Facebook anymore. The reason is Facebook filters posts to make sure the content is good, so I may not have chance to see all the posts. However, for emails, they will be always in my inbox, so I can open it anytime I want to.
  • We may get some special benefits from the emails.
A lot of eCommerce love to send promotional emails to drive sales and site traffics. Those emails always drive customers attention. They want to open it right now so they don't miss any big sales or benefits which seem "only" offer to them. Therefore, email marketing do receive a higher conversion rate and be a good promotional channel for business.

What kinds of email will make people open right away?

I receive tons of promotional emails everyday, but I don't open every single one. Most time, I take two or three seconds to have a quick through the subject lines, and I only open with the one that make me feel curiosity.

Therefore, from my promotional email folder, I find out six subject line styles which always make me open right away.

Style Two: Free Gift!

No matter for birthday or any special anniversary, it is always good to receive a free gift. It makes us feel that the brand cares about me.

Start with numbers is a great way to spark curiosity. For me, I always care about my skin health, so if some expert can tell me how to keep my skin away aging, I would love to check the content out. Therefore, sending useful and thoughtful information to your target customers can make them feel smart to learn good things.

Style Four: Call My Name!

Whenever I see the subject line has my name, I feel special. I feel the brand that want to communicate with me personally. There is something only for me.

Style Five: Last Chance!

"Last Chance" make me feel urgency. If it is a very good deal or "One Time Only" promotion, I would love to check it out. I don't want to miss any good opportunity.

Style Six: Something New!

For some software or APPs make new features or new looks, I always want to see the details because I want to stay up to trends and to try the new features.
